Expanding Visibility for Rancho Los Cerritos’ "Roots in California: Concepts of Home" Exhibition
As the public relations lead for the opening of Roots in California: Concepts of Home at Rancho Los Cerritos, I developed and executed a comprehensive media and outreach strategy that significantly expanded the exhibition’s visibility and community engagement. My work included press outreach, media relations, and a dedicated social media campaign, resulting in an unprecedented turnout. While previous Rancho Los Cerritos exhibition openings averaged around 50 attendees, my strategic efforts generated 600 RSVPs and brought in over 300 visitors on opening day—a landmark achievement for the museum.
To build momentum before the launch, I secured press coverage in key local and regional media outlets and organized a media preview day, ensuring that journalists had firsthand access to the exhibition’s stories and significance. Following the successful opening, I developed a public relations plan to help Rancho Los Cerritos sustain engagement with the community, deepen relationships with local organizations, and continue promoting the exhibition throughout its yearlong run.
Roots in California: Concepts of Home spotlighted the lived experiences of Mexicans and Mexican Americans in California, both past and present, drawing parallels between historical and contemporary displacement. By amplifying the voices in this exhibition through thoughtful PR and storytelling, I helped ensure that the exhibit reached a broader audience and fostered deeper community connections.
